Workplace Wellness and Resilience – It Matters More Than Ever

It has been widely documented that the mental health of Canadians is significantly lower than prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The Morneau Shepell Mental Health Index in November 2020 shows that the working population is currently as distressed as the most distressed one per cent of working Canadians prior to 2020.  Employers have a role to play to help enhance the mental health and wellness of their employees.  It is not just the right thing to do, it makes business sense to do so. 

Cambrian College, a medium sized College in Northern ON, has prioritized health and wellness and included it in our strategic plan.  This webinar will focus on Cambrian College’s journey on embedding health into our workplace culture.   We will share with you our strategy, framework and numerous activities to keep members of our community healthy during these extraordinary times.


With Alison De Luisa, Associate Vice President, Human Resources and Student Services Cambrian College

Alison De Luisa brings experience, expertise and perspective from both the private and public sectors.

Her role as Associate Vice-President, Human Resources and Student Services at Cambrian College is to help students and employees reach their full potential and help to foster a healthy environment for human flourishing.  In this role, and as a member of the College’s leadership team, she is accountable for Human Resources, Registrar, Varsity, Student Life and Athletics, the Glenn Crombie Student Centre for Accessibility and Wellness, Wabnode Centre for Indigenous Services, and the Library and Learning Commons.

She is currently the Chair for the Coordinating Committee of Vice Presidents for Student Services for Ontario Colleges and she was also the previous Chair of the Coordinating Committee, Vice Presidents, Human Resources for Ontario Colleges.

Before working within the education sector, Alison spent sixteen years in the mining sector in progressive human resources roles for Glencore (formerly Xstrata Nickel) in both Sudbury and Toronto.  She worked in Operations, Research and Corporate.  Her experience includes labour relations, where she both participated in, and lead, labour contract negotiations. She was later the Manager, Human Resources for Global Projects with projects in Tanzania, New Caledonia, Brazil, Canada and the Dominican Republic.  After working in Global Projects for three years, she became the Manager, Leadership Development and was accountable for the development and delivery of leadership strategies, programs and practises across the nickel business global sites and projects. 

Alison currently sits on the Board of Directors and Chairs the Governance Committee for Science North, the 2nd largest Science Centre in Canada and Cultural Industries Ontario North (CION) Board of Directors.

Alison earned a Degree in Industrial Relations from McGill University and a Master of Industrial Relations Degree from Queens University.  She currently resides in Sudbury, Ontario with her husband and two teenage sons.
